When Disney made it big in video games

After several years of failure, one of the world's largest entertainment companies can be satisfied with its success in video games, one of the reasons is that they finally decided not to create their own video games, but to leave them to someone else.

Over time, Disney has become an institution behind some of the biggest projects like ESPN, Marvel, Mickey Mouse, and Star Wars. Instead of producing themselves, they decided to license the success of other companies. Even though they still produce mobile games, Disney still does not dare to tackle big games for PC and PlayStation 4.

In the last few years, such an approach has resulted in great success, mostly thanks to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Marvel's Spider-Man.

Marvel's Spider-Man is a PlayStation 4 exclusive game that has sold more than 13 million copies. The Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order game was also a huge success. At roughly $60 apiece, each game made nearly a billion in sales alone. Interestingly, none of those games were made by Disney.

This is the strategy that Disney decided upon after a bad 2016. Did you know that in 10 years they bought and then closed at least six game studios? It was one of the worse periods that everyone would like to forget. Even though they are one of the most successful entertainment companies when it comes to gaming, they were simply not that successful. That is the main reason they decided to cooperate with famous gaming studios like Square Enix, the creator of Final Fantasy.

Regardless of whether the video games will be the result of a collaboration with another studio, the most important thing is to continue to create great video games that will attract a large number of players.
